Our mission |
Public speaking is one of the greatest fears of people. Our goal is to help our members embrace this fear and overcome it by not only teaching them but by providing a place and creating an environment where they feel welcome and confident to practice and improve their skills. We believe that while learning how to speak in public, one acquires assertiveness, planning skills, teamwork and leadership skills, as well as self-confidence that helps cope with pressure and tackle the challenges one may come across, be them public speaking - related or not. We seek to encourage our members to use their creativity, take risks, accept challenges, open up and learn with like-minded people.

Learn the art of public speaking through a supportive environment that enables you to learn effective communication and gain the confidence to take on any challenge. |
A brief overview |
Having began as Warwick Speakers, a Toastmasters Club in 2010, we have since stepped onto our own path with not only a new name, The Public Speaking Society at The University of Warwick, but a new format as well. We have continued to engage in similar activities as the bests of public speaking, whereas we put a great emphasis on the development of the skills of our members through a well-designed education and mentorship scheme which focus on the theoretical and practical aspects of public speaking and tracks the members’ development throughout the academic year. Our weekly sessions give the opportunity to our members to learn and improve from professionals and from each other alike, whereas our internal competitions provide the chance to practice the art of public speaking in its most fulfilling sense. Our best speakers have the chance to represent our society and university at the Inter-university Public Speaking Competition, which we had the honour to organise ourselves in 2018.
