To make things more exciting and to challenge our members, we organise numerous special sessions. First of all, we are certain that we have a great deal to learn from other public speaking societies. In the 2017/18 academic year, we paid two visits to the University of Birmingham Toastmasters to enhance our partnership and study their methods of public speaking.
In terms of our events on campus, we organise termly open mic nights in collaboration with other societies as well as internal public speaking competitions among our members to create new context to the practice of public speaking. The former event provides a perfect opportunity to rehearse for the competition in a pressure-less environment, whereas the latter challenges our members a great deal and serves as a means of selecting the competitors that would represent our university at the inter-university competition. As community-building is an important notion of ours since a good community is essential to create an inclusive environment that facilitates the training and improvement of our members, we believe it is also important to provide a platform for students to unwind and socialise with each other, that is why we organise regular socials, for example smaller ones after our internal competitions and bigger ones at the end of each term such as the Christmas social in term 1 and academic year - closing dinner in term 3 |
