In 2018, we had the honour to host the Inter-University Public Speaking Competition here at The University of Warwick. Speakers of 5 different universities took part in the competition, namely the University of Birmingham, Coventry University, University of Leicester, the University of Manchester, and last but not least, the University of Warwick.
The competition was divided into 2 rounds. The first round was that of prepared speeches. Each contestant was supposed to give a prepared speech of 3 to 5 minutes. The top 5 speakers from Round 1 were qualified for Round 2, which was the impromptu speech round. Each speaker was given a random topic in the form of a question and was then required to provide an argument in a speech of strictly 1 minute only. The top 3 speakers were elected based on their overall performance in both Round 1 and 2. We are proud to say that the winner of this year’s competition was none other than our very own, Sugheson Nagarajan. We hope that we have established an annual tradition of hosting such a event and that we will be able to expand on our success and host a larger inter-university competition next year. |
